Jim: ‘We’re releasing THUNK on physical format only, for now, as the tech giants are slowly killing the music industry by denying musicians income with pitiful streaming payments and being able to make decent sounding records at all with its domino effect on recording budgets, studios and mastering engineers. investing in AI harvesting and creation of AI content, their only motivation is profit, and in Spotify’s case assisting in the creation of actual war machines. I hope we see the turning of the tide in the near future as many artists are pushing back, that’s why we’re only releasing THUNK on cassette, vinyl and CD through Songland Records, who will ship it to every corner of the world. The record has live off the floor feeling that had to be preserved at all costs, and that rawness is manifest, recorded and mixed onto analog tape old school style. And we’ll go out a support it live with a tour in February and March 2026.’ THUNK’s lyrics deal with current concerns, well meaning and misplaced advice, nostalgia for some mythical lost Australian past and the death of the First Amendment to name just a few. The single blends rhythmic drive, layered vocals and flashes of synth and vocoder, showcasing the playful production style that defines Faulkner’s new era.
“INK and I wrote this about someone completely catching you off guard and blowing your mind, like being pulled into a tractor beam,” Faulkner says.
“I got to use all my toys on this one, even my vocoder. People still think of me as the acoustic wood and strings guy, but half my life is spent playing synths and messing with loops. I hope it is as fun to listen to as it was to make.” Gravitational follows the release of Hunting Season featuring Lissie and Los Bitchos and the distorted bass driven Alright Alright Alright, both of which introduced a new sonic direction for Faulkner built around collaboration, experimentation and a refreshed creative energy.
